Madison Gulf Bridge closed

Old news, it seems. In November they closed the Madison Gulf/AT bridge for repair. This seems the only bridge on the forest the USFS has any interest in maintaining. Certainly the only one in Wilderness.

I would guess that is because it is on the AT

Is that the "bouncy" suspension bridge after the tent sites on MGT? That is a pretty key crossing. Will definitely have a big impact accessing the Great Gulf. Some big currents and deep pools in that spot. Glad they will repair it versus removing it....hopefully.

I think they can make exceptions where access and safety are concerned. The Dry River bridge has had a lot of work done on it and I feel like this isn't the first Madison Gulf replacement. How they get around things for 13 Falls is still beyond me.

Good point. I cannot recall but are the tent sites at 13 Falls gravel pads as opposed to wood platforms? For the lean-to and tent platforms at Guyot campsite there is long narrow corridor of non-wilderness that looks like a gerrymandering boundary (not trying to be political).

The caretaker platform is wood and there is a privvy.

OK, then I think that the USFS should run another narrow corridor of non-wilderness down the Twin Brook Trail from Galehead hut to include 13 Falls campground, like was done for Guyot campsite, albeit at 2.6 miles a bit longer. Easy as adding a line on the map. No heavy lifting.
