magalloway mountain and fire tower, hiked 8 25 via coot trail. magalloway road in about 8 miles with a few lefts and rights. signs with arrows still up. you can do it with a small car but ride in will be a little slow as more caution is needed. no problem with pick up. parking for about 12 cars at trail head. bobcat trail about 50 yards before parking area is supposed to be a little more gradual, but we decided to take the coot trail. .8 miles up with 1000 ft gain. beautiful day with 360 views from tower looking at maine, nh, vt, and Canada. if you get up there, check out ledge overlook via a small spur trail on the northeast side of the summit, near the forest building. ledges offer great views to the northeast while being on the cliff edge with an aprox 800 ft drop to a large rock field. impressive. no bugs, no mud, no streams, no problem.
