Time to reacquaint familiar trails and a close to home one, Speck Pond, Mahoosuc, and May Cutoff over Mahoosuc Arm..Success Pond road still has it's bumpy areas just go slow...plenty of parking at the trailhead or nearby...3 vehicles today..water crossings easy on Sucker Brook as level was low...Speck Pond trail has been worked on the past few years and is pretty easily passable with nice blue blazing..4 AT section hikers used the Speck Pond campsite overnite...Mahoosuc for a short distance from the pond to May Cutoff in good shape (usual rocks etc)..May Cutoff only had a few planks buried in mud...weather and views fine today for the north country, great views into Maine and west to the Kilkennys, and could see Chocorua easily...only Presi summits in clouds...on return near the "sharp turn" took an overgrown skid road down to the gravel road which leads out to Success Pond Rd..one can drive to the end of the gravel road to a log landing, and it looks to be a kind of short bushwhack up to the ledgy knobs of Mahoosuc Mt....that could be a good one for an interesting reading, looking at pics, bushwhacker report!!
