trails: notch trail, mahoosuc trail, may cutoff, speck pond trail
conditions: success pond road in ok shape. the first mile that was tough in the spring is still rough, but not nearly as rutted out as it was. a few iceberg type rocks to watch out for along the way. the notch trail was a bit wet and slippery in spots, particularly on bog bridging. the trail through the notch was also a bit wet, but not a problem with a little extra care. the climb up the arm wet as well, but footing was mostly ok on the numerous steep ledges. some standing water on the may cutoff then wet and a bit slick down the speck pond trail. all brook crossings were fine.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: beautiful day to be out hiking. first time through the notch and it was certainly interesting as was the climb up the arm. great views from near the top of mahoosuc arm. nearby mahoosuc mountain looked particularly enticing.....thanks to jeremy for a nice hike.
