Trail Conditions: Challenging trip through the Mahoosuc Notch. Rocks were dry and relatively easy to follow route through the maze.
Special Equipment Required: None. Light pack recommended as there are some tight squeezes.
Comments: Hiked with MuddyTrails and Tenderfoot in Tall Grass. Started from trailhead on Success Pond Road (about 10 miles from Berlin, NH). Made it through Notch in about 1 and 1/2 hours. To make it more challenging I was hoping to bushwack through Notch 2 (col between Mahoosuc Mtn and Mahoosuc Arm) but gave up after about 1500 feet because of time constraints. Back tracked and went over Mahoosuc Arm and down Speck Pond trail and walked about 2 miles on Success Pond Rd back to trail head. I think trying the bushwack from the west side following the Sucker Brook up to the col and then south east through the col and picking up the AT would be an easier route. Also would be a neat way to summit Mahoosuc Mtn. Some other day...
