I'm interested in climbing mount Marshall this winter. Does anyone have any words of advise? Can this trip be done as a verylong day hike?

This is a good day hike. Not particularity long since you can walk across the frozen water to the start of the herd path. The last time I did it in winter was during a 24” snowdrop, fortunately without wind, and it took 8.5 hours including breaking trail. I am planning on doing it in late January if it fits your plans.
