Sunday, Feb. 3rd: Started in from the Loj around 8 am with my partner Mimi. The trail from the Loj to Avalance Pass packed as could be expected. The trail is in good shape. Crossed both lakes, great views. Followed broken trail to beginning of trail to Marshall.
The track in was broken by a group of four hikers, who we would meet later in the day. They developed a nice track about three quarters of the way up. We broke trail to near the summit ridge. The other group caught up with us and moved ahead. The direction they picked to reach the summit cut to the left to early so we had to push through some heavy pine.
We reached the summit around 1:30 pm. The snow in this area is firm with some depth, so trail breaking is a bit harder on the body.
Overall weather conditions, good, but overcast.
We returned to our car by 5:30 pm, in good spirits.
Equipment: Crampons not necessary. Snowshoes, poles, and a good shell to ward off the snow on the trees.
