Hey, thanks to all! When I came back from work, I browsed on VFTT, like I often do. What a surprise when I saw this unexpected thread in the TR section! Thanks Richard.
Like I wrote in the TC, it was very wet in the park that weekend. We were supposed to wait for the Labor Day weekend, but this semester my schedule is not so great, it's gonna be more difficult for me to extend my weekend trips this fall, so we decided at the last minute to go for it before classes begin (I'm a teacher, BTW). We slept in the car near the gate, and Saturday morning we had to wait until the rangers reopened the Tote road which was closed on Friday due to a flooding. It was one of the wettest hike I did. In some places the trail was a 6" deep running brook (see attached pic!) But the sun came out while we were in the col between N Brother and Fort. It was a low profile finish, being alone with Julie (we were the only ones on Fort that day). The only special thing we brought was a small bottle of canadian ice wine we bought at the duty free. A 10 y/o scotch for my winter 46ers and ice wine for the NEHH, life is good in the woods
We found a walk-in tent site at Roaring brook and wanted, at first, to get up at 4 AM and add the Knife Edge on Sunday, but the forecasts were not good, hurricane Charley was supposed to arrive in the middle of the night (finally the sky stayed clear until 2 PM, do not trust the weather channels!). Moreover, our boots were completely soaked, we were a little bit beaten, we went to bed a bit too late and I had to keep in mind the long drive back to Montreal AFTER doing the Knife Edge AND Hamlin (for Julie), so we decided to take it easy, sleep late in the morning, have a relax breakfast on Togue pond's shore and skip Katahdin. We did right as there was an awfully long waiting line at the border. We arrived in MTL at 8 PM, even if we skipped our climb!
So what's next? No lists for the moment. Oh, wait: I'm still working on the 115 winter, but it'll wait until december 22nd... And I'm helping Julie with her own 115, so I guess I'm still peakbagging through her
Harry, Jean and Nat: when are you gonna finish the 115? Let me know where and when, if I can I'll be there.
Papa Bear, Julie and me would be interested to hike the 100 mile wilderness somewhere in the next 2 or 3 years, so let us know how it was and how you handled the logistics. And most of all, good luck and have fun!
