Middle Carter, South Carter, Carter Dome, NH
Trails: Imp Trail (south), North Carter Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail, Carter Dome Trail, Nineteen Mile Brook Trail
Date of Hike: 02-07-2010
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plowed and lots of room today at 19 mile Br lot
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Ice - Blue, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes: All frozen.
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blowdowns, walkarounds, Tim and Fran cut out 2 of the more serious ones.
Comments: Micro-spikes worn through the Joe Dodge BW and up Imp to the ridge, Snowshoes across the ridge and up C-Dome. Changed back to Micro-spikes at Zeta Pass and out. Highly recommend the BW, Imp, North Carter Tr to Middle and North-to-South direction for these three peaks. Although the winds were howling at us as we climbed Middle Carter, the rest of the hike was pretty protected and winds swirled above and around us but not a concern. No views but lots of smiles all around today today as we checked off three more winter 4ks. Nice hike for Fran, Karen, Tim and Val. Here are some of Frans photos and a few of Vals:
