Date of hike: 12/25/07
Trail Conditions: The northern end of Moat Mountain trail is well-packed to Red Ridge trail and beyond. To start on Red Ridge trail, it is best to cross Lucy brook ~40 yards upstream. From then, there is a segment with lots of water on the trail; otherwise, 10-20 inches of somewhat consolidated snow. Red Ridge trail was only lightly tracked till Red Ridge Link trail ; beyond that, I broke the trail to the second overlook on Red Ridge, and did not reach Moat Mountain Ridge.
Special equipment required: Snowshoes are essential on Red Ridge trail. Poles very helpful.
