Mt. Monadnock via Birchtoft and Red Spot and Pumpelly Trails
Date: 4/20/08
Conditions: Limited parking at Birchtoft because the area is still closed for the season. A few bugs were out, there was a bit of mud, most of the snow/ice is gone.
Comments: This is a good time of year to pick up trail trash. Lots of corners from the wrappers of energy bars, peels from an orange or two and quite a few Stabilicer screws. The most unusual thing, though, was a condom on the summit (still sealed and including a date and phone number). Another oddity, but I suppose not really for this mountain, was a young woman hiking in pink flip-flops.
