Drove up from Boston expecting clouds and light rain, but arrived at the Old Toll Road entrance in sunshine and bugs. Entrance fee is now $4 a head. Gathered my AMC group and started up the Halfway House Trail about 9:15. Thence to Cart Path, Mossy Brook (lovely!) and Great Pasture up to Monta Rosa. Finally spied our first other hikers of the day. Then Smith Summit to the top. Found the usual 20 or so other hikers and ate our lunch. Then down the White Dot, White Cross, Smith Connecting to Bald Rock. Cliff Walk, Parker and the Old Toll Road to finish it off.
Trails were all clear and decently marked ('cept maybe for Great Pasture) with the usual wet spots. Bugs were only a consideration near the bottom. Not much in bloom yet, except for one shad bush, some blueberries and a patch of dwarf ginseng.
A very pleasant day indeed.
