July 3rd,
Went up Monadnock with 2 other couples, my wife and myself with the idea of catching the sunset and some local fireworks.
We got to the park around 6:15 and was suprized by the game of 20 questions the rangers gave us when we arrived. I found it a little funny after hiking for most of my life and this being the 1st time "questioned" about being prepared. Yes I know a lot of folks go there unprepared.
We headed up White Dot to the summit and arrived after a nice slow hike up just after 8pm. We had the summit to ourselves for about 10 minutes til 2 other small groups arrived. The sunset was awesome. Reds, oranges, pinks, purples. I wanted to kick myself for not bringing along the camera.
Shortly after sunset my cousin and I made some cheese fondue for all to share. A perfect dish to share with friends.
Around 9 a solo hiker showed up and we chatted peakbagging with him for the rest of the evening.
Beyond the Wapack Range the first of many firework shows started. We estimated seeing at least 30 differnt towns/city shows before we went down. The best looking toward the Dublin Lake direction were Dublin shot off and in the same direction Hancock and Harrisville NH all at the same time.
About 9:45 we stated heading down. Just before we entered the trees we wittnessed a blood red Moonrise. It was amazing!
Back at the car at midnight, home 15 minutes later enjoying a nice ale.
