We walked the road both ways to/from the Halfway House site, mud not bad. White Arrow was its usual early spring self with some bare rock, hard snow and long sections of water ice. Cowardly dogs that we are, we slinked around the final steep ice flow in the woods to the right without issue. Smith Summit Trail had bare rock and soft snow down to timberline and some sections of harder ice in the woods. Monte Rosa and Fairy Spring Trails had mostly solid snow. Snow surface was still firm with no postholing. No blowdowns; there was less damage to this side of the mountain in the ice storm.

We alternated between bare boots and Microspike ST's and that was fine except at the aforementioned frozen waterfall.

Pretty time of the year to do this hike. Soaring granite, white snow and deep blue sky. We encountered no one today on this heavily climbed beauty. Woods along some of the roads in the area look like a war zone from the ice storm.
