Mountain: Mt. Monadnock
Trail: White Dot
Trail Conditions: Freezing rain coated everything (including me) above Falcon Spring (Nixon rock, actually) with a thin layer of ice. Underneath that was old ice, crusty packed snow and rock.
Equipment: Traction aides of some sort ESSENTIAL. Poles recommended. I used my stabilicers and a pair of poles and had no problems.
Comments: At 1 pm it was still driving freezing rain on the summit. Wind was not from the usual quarter and was in my face all the way from the summit down to 3/4 ledge. The slab above Paradise was tricky as the ice was barely thick enough for my stabilicers to grab. Two young guys tried to bare boot it: they didn't make it as far as 1/2 way and had to go into the deep snow off-trail to make it down safely. The wind was making "ice feathers" above 3/4 ledge: quite beautiful. Zero visibility (no Views From the Top today).
Weather update: now (4 PM) it's snowing steadily in Keene.
