Date of Hike: Thur. Feb. 17, 2011
Trails: Ammonoosuc Ravine Tr., Crawford Path
Conditions: Ammo was firm enough to bare boot to Gem Pool this morning. Snowshoes needed on return due to warm temps and softening snow. The steeps were not consolidated in the morning, but snowshoes with televators worked well. The alpine before the hut was more solid with nice styrofoam sections for good traction. We wore crampons from the Hut to Monroe and left them on all the way to Washington and back. Lots of blue ice sections on the flats before the cone of George. The cone was mostly packed snow. Conditions were pretty good. No real issues. A few lean overs on the Ammo. On the return the temps were really starting to melt the snow in the trees and soften the snow. Very slow going coming down. Beautiful blue sky day with nice warm temps and some wind. Hiked with Steve Moore today who continued on to Jefferson. Nice talking with Erica on the trail today.
