While doing some exploration in the woods off the Wilderness trail, I happened upon this four flowered Painted Trillium. It was growing right next to a three flowered Painted Trillium. I've heard where other people had seen them before, but this was the first one for me.

I've seen quite a few 4-leaf clovers in my life, (a large patch last week on a football field, even 2 5's and a single 6 several years ago!), but only 1 quad-rillium.

Some people have all the luck!!! :) I've never seen either.... what are the probabilities??????

4 Leaf clovers are about 1 in 10,000, if you just search randomly. They do grow in patches sometimes, and they apparently can now be cultivated. Check Wikipedia for more info.
What say, dp, what's your calculation for the probability of seeing both, or neither?:)

J & J, congrats! Saw your pic in the local paper.

There's one of these on Mt. Chocorua. I was also wondering just how common this is.

happy trails :)
