I took the Beaver Brook Trail up as far as the shelter and spent the night there. 18-24 inches of crusty snow. Trail was broken out by barebooters most of the way up, but I used snowshoes the whole way, which made the steepest parts a little hard. Crampons might have been a better choice for the steepest, slickest parts. Snowshoes essential once the tracks gave out about 1/3 mile short of the shelter. No blowdowns, trail easy to follow despite snow. As I was descening on the 26th, a group of 4 snowshoers was headed toward the summit, so trail should be pretty good by now.
A beautiful Christmas night, with a huge Mars burning bright red directly in front of the shelter, lots of stars coming out till the moon rose, over a low cloud band, a couple hours after dark. Water running and reachable in brook by shelter for now.
