Weather couldn't be better, but we didn't make it to the summit.
We stopped at the viewpoint halfway around Mount Blue (just a mile before Moos. summit).
Paysage sublime! The view was well worth it.
There was an icy crust of about 1-2 inch over a layer of 4+ inches of smooth snow. Also, some branches at height of face. This was one of my worst hiking snow conditions.
We used crampons all the way to break the crust and avoid fall in steepy and icy slopes. We past 2 men wearing snowshoes who didn't make it as far as us. Be careful, many parallel trails have been traced by previous hikers. We took one that wasn't marked on our map (2003). That rendered our positioning more difficult.
Recommandation : bring both (Snowshoes and Crampons) and start early in the morning. Go with a numerous group, that way it would be possible to exchange the lead in the crust breaking.
Enjoy!
