Decided to go hiking on Friday. What a beautiful day. My husband thought Moosilauke would be a good one to do and who am I to argue when he could actually come with me. :)

We were originally going to do the Benton Trail but when we got to the curve in the road, it was gated. (I should have checked here to see if there were any problems on the trail but didn't.) Since I didn't know what was wrong, we chose the Beaver Brook Trail. Having hiked this long ago, I had my concerns because of Matthew (5 yrs.). We decided to try anyway with the thought that if it was too difficult, we would turn around. We were also starting later than I like because of the driving around so we had a turnaround time at 4:00.

Up we went. Although it is a beautiful trail, it is not my favorite...especially with Matthew (very steep with not too much on side) The trail was damp but not bad. We took our time and were careful keeping Matthew in between us. This trail is nice in one way because you get alot of the elevation out of the way at the beginning and then the top doesn't seem bad at all. We got to the top at 3:15. It was beautiful! You could see Vt and all the way to the Presidentials.

Headed down at 4:00. We took our time when we hit the falls. I have a thing with heights and looking down some of those ladders without a rail isn't my idea of fun...but we all made it down safe. What a great day to be out hiking. Matthew loved this trail. Figures!

5! Wow, time flies! Glad to read that you're out on the trails, I think the last time we hiked together was Arm's 100th on Baldpate eight years ago? Keep those trip reports coming! :)

time flying

After Arm's 100, we finished the 111 and then I got pregnant with Matthew...had to take a short break for big mountains but now we can go out again, yippi!!! I don't know if I have enough energy to do the 100 highest and the 111 again but you never know. I wouldn't want to deprive Matthew of all the fun Adam and Beth had. hahaha

Take him to enough peaks to get him hooked and he'll take care of finishing the lists. :)
(heck, if you stall long enough he'll have herd paths to all the NE100)
