Conditions: Trail is in great shape. Hardpacked snow nearly all the way to Carriage Rd intersection. Along the ridge from Carriage Rd intersection to beginning of summit climb, there’s soft snow with some drifts. But, once you’re out of the scrub and begin the final ascent, the trail is predominantly ice.

There are a few minor blowdowns, but none are an issue. Also, there are no issues with brook crossings. Oh, and unlike many trails to 4K peaks this time of year, you’re not walking through tree-top canopy!!

Special Equipment: You should bring some sort of traction device for the final ascent since the trail is predominantly ice at that point. For the remainder of the trail, you could bare-boot it without fear of postholing. But personally, I was comfortable wearing Kahtoolas from trailhead to summit.

Comments: Only met a few people on the trail today. Such a beautiful day, thought there would be more. Actually had the summit all to myself!!

Will only bore you with 5 PHOTOS.
