Side note: As of this date, the access road to Ravine Lodge is still gated.
Trail Condition: Clear and generally dry to 2500 feet. Ice patches start at 2500 feet and become significant by 3300 feet. From 4000 feet to the treeline the trail corridor is covered in deep snow with the expected monorail. Clear from the treeline to summit. All snow bridges still in place but a couple more warm days like this one and they’ll start to collapse.
Special Equipment: Poles. I went with Stabilicers from 3300 feet to the treeline. Fitz bare booted the climb. With careful foot placement there was no postholing problem. On the way down Fitz pulled out the Stabilicers and I went with crampons for a little more security. The snow had softened in the course of the day but the monorail was still solid. We both had snowshoes but never needed to use them. Bare booted from 3100 feet back to the trailhead.
Comments: Hike with Fitz. Great conditions all day with a moderate breeze from the southeast experienced at the summit. The spring conditions really slowed things down. We may have been able to move a little faster with snowshoes but we weren't under any time constraints so we simply enjoyed the day. We saw seven others on the trail.
