Sunday was a stunningly beautiful day, which turned out a bit deceptive. The climb up gorge brook is well broken out, so that we kept our snowshoes on our backs all day, but at treeline, it began to blow pretty hard. Combined with the icy surface, this made for difficult going on stablicers. My partner had crampons, a much better choice. The beginning of the descent was icy and even windier. We did it without face protection, but masks and goggles would have allowed us to stop and appreciate the summit for more than the 30 seconds that we did take. If its technically spring, still think full winter gear on an open, windbolwn summit like Moosilauke.
