My sister and I hiked hiked up Moriah on Saturday and wow....what a perfect day to be out, especially after being homebound last weekend by the rain! We headed out just after 8 up the Carter-Moriah Trail. The trail at the beginning was a mix of hard ice, some bare spots and snow...it was still early enough so everything was still solid. Just before the summit of Mt Suprise we started to post hole a bit so we put on our snowshoes, which we wore for the remainder of the trip.

Heading onward and upward over the ledges we took our time.....the views today were incredible! After going over many false summits we finally reached the summit where we stayed and lounged around for about and hour and a half.

By the time we started going down the sun had really warmed things up and the trail had softened up quite a bit. Just before the ledges we met up with a fellow VFTT'r, Rols...nice to meet you! Another group had also been making their way up, but it did not appear as though they had snowshoes as the trail now had many, many postholes.

Overall it was a great day to be out....still winter conditions up in the higher elevations though! Here are some pictures of our trip.

Another wonderful day in the Whites!

Sounds like you had a great day :)

Views from the summit are very impressive! I came up from the South few weeks ago and there were quite a few open ledge areas with nice views to.

Hanging out @ the summit for an hour & a half!!! WOW :) :)

Nice pictures too!

Thanks for sharing!

Hey!!

I remember you guys (at least.... I think that was you guys)! I was the guy in the green jacket hiking solo. Didn't realize you guys were also VFTT'ers. It was nice bumping into you all.

My trip report is on my webpage: www.jamieofthenorth.com

Take care! :D

Great pics and a grand day out by the looks of it! Above Mt Surprise there are some of the best views of the Northern Pressies going in my book.

They say third times a charm, maybe it'll work for me next time and I'll actually get to the summit :) Having taken two stabs at the Carter Moriah approach it'll be Stony Brook for me next time.

Haven't been to the Whites for three weeks now and I'm starting to get withdrawl!!
