trails: carter-moriah trail

conditions: room for a few cars right at the end of bangor road. trail was hard packed and crusty down low. increasing blown powder higher up. some heavy drifting obscuring the track in the hardwoods beyond mt. surprise and on the open ledges. decent track continued to the summit with a fair amount of drifting at the summit spur. a good sized group without snowshoes was headed up this afternoon so the track may be a bit chewed up.

equipment: we wore snowshoes the whole hike.

comments: a very cold start this morning, but once moving it was not as bad as expected. winds did ramp up over the course of the day so i'm glad we got to the summit relatively early. some great views particularly to the presidentials and the snow blowing off the summit of washington. thanks to mark and cynthia for braving the cold for this one.
