Stony Brook Trail well packed to jct with C-M Trail, from where snowshoe tracks led south. Third and fourth stream crossings without bridges no problem, with low water levels (fourth crossing still snow bridged). C-M Trail to the north was bare-boot post-holed, so I left snowshoes "at the col" and barebooted as well. Some icy (windblown rain crust) slopes on the ledges required my Microspikes, which I left on for much of the post-holing. Some snow drifts over waste deep; got off trail in a few places, finding some really deep spruce traps, but none more than chest deep. The sign posts that I could see were boot level, but I suspect that many are buried. On the way down, I bareboot post-holed the old logging road out to the housing development and walked the last half mile down N. Carter Road to the parking lot. I do not think that my snowshoes would have worked very well, given the two days on sun turning the 6" to 18" of new surface snow wet. Beautiful bluebird sky day, in mid-20s, with no wind. Fine fews of the No. Presi's.
