Date of Hike: 12-7, 12-8
Trail Conditions: Trail was not broken out after the first mile(approx.). Broke trail to the Valley Way Campsite and then up the Upper Bruin. No blow downs.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes and trekking poles - above the tree line ice axe and crampons were useful. Full winter clothing is a must - especially goggles above the tree line.
Comments: The unbroken trail made the hike much more difficult - but the snow was light which helped. The snow became very deep farther up the trail.
We camped at the Valley Way campsite and then up the Upper Bruin the next day. The Durand Ridge had a mixture of snow and ice and was quite windy. The visibility was very poor. We only made it to JQ Adams before it was time to turn around.
