Trails: Cabin Trail, Lawrence Trail, Old Paugus Trail, Big Rock Cave Trail

Trail Conditions: No surprise that the trails were wet with wet slippery roots, leaves and rocks. The Cabin, Lawrence and the Big Rock Cave Trails maintained by the WOC are in good condition with excellent blazes and signage. I am not sure who maintains the Old Paugus trail which has a massive mess of tangled blowdowns and uprooted trees that have be been there for awhile. Missing sign for the Bee Line Trail at the Jct with the Old Paugus trail. Blazes are pretty much non existant especially on the outcroppings between Paugus summit and the Bee Line tr.

Water Crossings: High water on the Whitin Brook forced us to hike upstream to find a crossing we were comfortable with. The brook was really roaring!

Comments: Because windy, unsettled weather was predicted for the higher summits, we opted for something close to home. Other than the nasty descent off Paugus on the Old Paugus trail and the sketchy water crossing of Whitin Brook, it was a very nice loop hike. Big Rock Cave always thrills. We met Darcy, Dan and Johanna at the Paugus summit.
