I find it strange the guide services have their ads to go climb the mountain right in the middle of this tragedy report. Is it me ?

You can blame a computer for that unfortunate ad placement. Sites like CNN use software that perfrom content matching in order to place ads into articles with content relevant to the ad.
It's basically run on keywords and phrases..... and it either recieves little human oversight, or CNN decided this wasn't an awkward use of the technology.

CNN Rainier story
I don't see a guide service ad there now. Maybe someone from CNN looked at their product, or more likely, their advertiser called and raised cain about disadvantageous ad placement. Don't expect computers to make even obvious value judgments.
