First want to thank Maddy for setting up the BBQ....gonna keep this short....The Mrs. finally said she's accompany me to one of the gatherings, after all done and said she liked it and wouldn't mind going again next year
Now the hike....I took her to Mt. Van Hoevenberg, the walk to the beaver pond was nice and comfortable walking on the pine needles, we admired the beaver pond and started our way through the narrow trail that had a lot of brush sticking out.....I was letting her know about the mud and roots when I heard her yell "ow", I went back and saw that a cut tree trunk was sticking out and she hit it with her thigh, it was a nice bruise and i thought that our trip would be over but she just wanted to keep going, real trooper.....first time for her to do some rock hopping around the mud and at times just walking through the mud....the next mile would be a little steep and i made sure we took plenty of breaks, plus I made her drink a lot of water....we spotted many little toads on the trail and my wife liked the many different mushrooms....she was happy I was leading sine I was walking into the spider webs....as we approached the first ledge (there are 4) I let her take the lead so that she could see the views first, well she let out a huge "whoo- hoo" and sttod there in amazement, boy was I happy.....we hung outthere for a while had 1/2 our lunch and then went another 2 min to the other ledges....it was so clear out you could see for miles, which many of you already know.....now on the way back I go very slow because of knee issues and my wife wanted to go faster, well you know what happens when u go to fast, slipppppp! I turn around and she's laughing while laying down on rock and mud boy did I yell at her to slow down, thank the lord she was ok.....onto the next part.....she tells me that it's "bathroom time"....that's another first for her, with no complaints.....now back at the beaver pond she decides to go a little faster and not test the area with the poles....bad idea....she hits a soft spot slips and sinks down into the mud while hugging a rock....I couldn't help her because I was video taping her trying to get her suctioned boot out of the mud....that was funny.....we made it back to the car on south meadow road and saw a hundred cars parked along the road, wow.......it was a great first time for her and especially for me...hopefully I can get her out some more, Van hovenberg is a great short trip....2.2 mile in with 750 ft elevation....great views.......ps, we drove up Whiteface on sunday, it was cloudy but worth the visit for the first time......I had a great time also watching those glowing flying frisbees!....will get pics up later this week...
