Date of Hike: August 5, 2008

Trail Conditions: Wet, but a great hike. Good views from the top - Abraham was the only 4000+ peak not in fog.

Special Equipment Required: None

Comments: Be advised that the description of how to get to the Fire Warden's trailhead in AMC's Maine Mountain Guide is incorrect. This was already posted a couple of years ago, but it's worth repeating. All three groups hiking the trail today missed the trailhead initially.

AMC's description:

...At 6.0 mi., a road turns left to a new bridge over Rapid Stream. Cross the stream and follow the road for about 0.5 mi. to the trailhead at a crossroads. The trail begins straight into the woods.

My description:

...At 6.0 mi., a road turns left. You will immediately cross Rapid Stream over two small bridges (neither looking particularly new). After the second bridge, the road forks. Take the right fork (which looks worse and older than the left fork). Follow this road for about 0.5 mi. to the trailhead at a crossroads. The trail begins straight into the woods.

And, in case you were wondering, the gravel road is easily traversable with a sedan.
