there was a small dusting of fresh powder down lower on the airline. as we got to 4k ft the fresh snow got deeper, about 4in, and the trail was less consolidated. there was one large ice flow a couple miles into the hike. it was overcast and snowing all day. once above treeline we were in the clouds and there were white out conditions with less than 50ft visibility. winds were around 40mph+. we came across one other group and a solo hiker. both were unable to follow the trail to the summit in the alpine zone. we had minor trail finding troubles, mostly on the way off the summit. it was nice to have six in our group to help with route finding.

i wore microspikes until the alpine zone and then switched to crampons. two wore micro's all day, two wore crampons all day and one wore hillsounds.

fantastic day out! great to hike with some new people!
