I'm thinking of whacking from Norcross Pond, over Mt Anderson and down to Carrigain Notch Tr just north of the height of land. Is this doable or a bad idea? Any thoughts on this are appreciated. I will be passing over Carrigain and ascending the Nancy Pond Tr from the west. The whack is a thought to save a couple miles and avoid a 3.5ish mile road walk. Thanks.

have not hiked between the pond and anderson, but have hiked anderson and gone from there down to the notch and the going was generally pretty scrappy, but not horrible. some definite thick going up on the peak itself, but the reward is some nice views from a couple points near the summit. trying to hit real close to the height of land on the descent might require a fair bit of slabbing and it could ultimately be faster to hit the trail a bit lower and hike back over from there. that was my experience anyway. if you have the time a trip over lowell is a real treat.
take it easy.

Thanks Bryan. I just read your TR from last November. It's sounds doable. I'll be navigating by map and compass (and path of least resistance) so my goal will be to hit Carrigain Notch Tr in the shortest distance. Regaining some elevation will be no big deal.

I have been to Anderson from between Nancy & Norcross Ponds and there was no unusual terrain there, it is kind of steep down to Carrigain Notch but the route I used had no cliffs

Thanks. I opted to skip the whack yesterday and descend Nancy Pond Tr then walk the roads. We were making great time on the trails and I had already started the day a little later than desired. I did see both of the open spots on the summits (from Signal Ridge) that Bryan mentioned and have added them to my to do list. You can see Mt Anderson clearly from Norcross Pond.
