There was a dusting to about an inch of snow down low with about 2" of new snow higher up and on the summit.

The logging road was partially bare, soft, and muddy. Down low the snow was very soft except for dead center on the trail. The problem was that with the fresh snow covering, it was difficult to hit the center right on, so with any deviation, a posthole would suddenly appear. My micro spikes worked for awhile, until I got tired of my foot going in, so I switched to snow shoes, and it made the world of difference. I kept them on all the way to the summit and back down until I hit the logging road again.

The trail through the low area where all the drainage is, is really getting muddy with all the run off and melting snow. In a few weeks, it's really going to be sloppy.

The sun never made an appearance. In fact, it was snowing in Crawford notch this morning on the way up and spitting snow on Cabot this morning. The temps were weren't that cold and there wasn't any wind. Most of the summits were socked in when I left at 1:00.

Talked to two other hikers today.
