Conditions: As of today, brook crossings were all very manageable, and the few blowdowns were easy to negotiate. The trail itself was mainly soft snow which we pretty well packed out during our ascent & descent on snowshoes. The only evidence of recent traffic on the trails was that of a lone hiker on Stablicers who we met descending as we were ascending. Our trek up & back on snowshoes filled in some of his minor post-holing (for which he was apologetic).
Special Equipment: Despite some snow-balling underfoot, snowshoes were definitely the best footwear for the soft-snow conditions that were present on the trail today.
Comments: Sadly the end of the 2007-2008 Winter Season is but a day away. But today was a beautiful weather day for Silverfox and me to add another Winter 4K peak to our list.
Oh, should also mention that from the cabin up to the Cabot summit, there was more than one trail broken out. Think it’s safe to say just choose the one that seems most logical to you. It appears that they all eventually lead to the summit.
Photos turned out so-so, but 5 of them are located HERE.
