Saturday started out kind of slow.....people weren't moving too fast nor were they making decisions...Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, who cares, lets just hike!
Still waiting for the coffee....

SK suggested Caribou Mtn and none of us had hiked it, so off we went.
Mats, Rebecca, & Annalisa headed in one direction and the rest of us the opposite direction, after finally making it to the coffee shop.

Our group was a dedicated group of strong hikers ready to take on the mighty Caribou. Arm, Woody, Stevo, Jen, and myself. The hike-2850 feet at the summit.

On the way over to Evans Notch we wanted to impress Woody and Jen with a new trail we had discovered on Friday while hiking. The hike to the "Old Man of the Valley"...a tough spring hike with water crossing(1) and about 50 feet of tough terain. After a few minutes, we arrived! Have you seen the man? I think he's a dirty old guy....The Old Man of the Valley took a bite out of Arm's arm on Friday, it may of been after Stevo stuck his finger up his nose or was it when he stepped on his nose??? Not sure, he gave me a kiss and was rock solid of a man! (Arm has a pic) Private showings only.............

After frolicking around for a while we hiked back out and headed to our trail head. Another decision had to be made...which end to start on..okay we headed up Caribou Trail and would come down Mud Brook Trail.
The trail took us through nice wooded areas and saw many flowers as it skirted along by Morrison Brook. We stopped and relaxed after hiking for a while at Kees Falls... The weather was perfect with no bugs and a little breeze.

Just before breaking out of treeline, we encountered snow. It was only one patch on the trail but more in the woods. After trudging 4 steps, we made it out onto the trail again and off to the summit. We spread out and snacked and visited in the bright sun and enjoyed the views in all directions.

We wondered how Mats and group were making out, while we basked in sunshine. After about an hour we decided it was time to move down and head out Mud Brook Trail, which had no mud???? The black flies found us towards the end of the hike and we sped up and out to the cars. A suggestion of Mr Pizza and beer, was a quick unanimous choice and off we went. The plan was to wait out the black flies before heading over to the campsite. It worked!

Caribou is a great smaller mountain. I hiked it last summer not knowing what to expect and was suprised by the views that cover the Presi's, Carters, Baldface range, Mahousics, and beyond. East Royce used to be my favorite off the beaten path hike, but Caribou now takes the cake!

Thanks for the call from the Caribou Nif ;) We were wondering how you would fare on the mighty Caribou Glacier while we were snacking away on the summit ridge of Madison. You guys were down by Mr Pizza by the time we started our snacks it seems

Great weekend.......all these happy vftt dudes and dudettes are one heck of a breed.....looking forward to hike again in June :)

That place brings back memories...
I recall I did my first overnight on Caribou as a kid with the summer camp. I took a fall off Kees Falls while taking pictures and luckily landed safely in the pool below. Nearly gave my camp councilor a heartattack and it was a cold/damp miserable night.

Ah, yes!! Good times though!!

Hey - even I sometimes have good ideas! That is one really nice little ridge. You don't see the Whites from that direction often, and the 1/4 mile of open ledge is a blast to walk across. Glad you enjoyed it!

darl: your pics are not public. You need to open the album up
