Date of Hike: Sat. April 10, 2010
Trails: Sawyer River Rd., Signal Ridge Trail
Road walk dry. Bushwhack to avoid first water crossing. Snow shoes to the second crossing and beyond to the bottom of the steeps. The trail to the second crossing was loaded with large blowdowns and standing water in the trail. Bill Marcotte and I cleared most of them on our return.
Second crossing rock hoppable with very wet boots. Bare booted up the steeps on bare ground to the turn for the one mile traverse. Snow shoes the rest of the way to the summit and back. The traverse was loaded with leaners and blow downs. We cleared most of them on our return.
From the end of the mile traverse to the ridge was solid packed rail with some leaners. The ridge was all packed hard styrofoam to the woods below the summit cone. The trail to the summit was a gantlet of blowdowns, leaners, and branches. They're still there (not enough time to clear everything). Still lots of snow up high.
It turned into a beautiful day with bright sun and warm temps. Met up with Becca Munroe, Jeremy (Rocket 21), and Eric Rathbun today on the trail.
