I decided not to x-c ski in due to the hassle of carrying boots and decided to tow my orange plastic sled for a ride down. Unfortunately there is not much of a slope to the road so I ended up walking the road. :(

I started at 8:30 and finished at 4:30. I've never been here in winter before and I have to say it is beautiful. I barebooted until I got near the exposed ridge where I switched to snowshoes. It was here that I noticed a rivet popped but I was still able to use them. The spruce trees at this elevation were now snowcapped.

On the exposed Signal Ridge the views were quite dramatic as there was a mixture of sun and clouds. The Presidentials were hidden but I could clearly see Attitash Ski Area, North Kearsage, Mt. Willey and of course Carrigain Notch. At the site of the former firewarden's cabin I saw J&J again [John and June] whom I first met at the Flags of 48 on the Twins! I also "officially" met Wolfgang this time whom I ran into doing the Kinsmans last December but didn't know him at the time. There are a lot of 4,000 footers and I don't get to do them that often so to run into them again in winter again is just amazing [I last saw them on Isolation which was also the last 4,000 footer I climbed]. I told them these chance meetings must mean we have to plan a hike together this summer!

It was very windy on the observation tower but I got views of Bondcliff, Bonds, Hancocks, Loon/Waterville Valley ski areas, Osceola's, Passaconaway, Whiteface, Sandwich Mountain, Jennings Peak, Chocorua and more! Truly impressive. It was easy going down where I eventually caught up with J&J and Wolfgang so we talked some more until we got back to the car.
