This hike was what is sometimes referred to as a lollipop loop. The Davis Path comprised the stem portion of the "lollipop", as well as half of the "lollipop" itself. The other half of the "lollipop" was a bushwhack involving the ridgeline that is directly west of the ridge where the Davis Path is located.
Regarding the conditions along the Davis Path, the first mile of this trail was basically bare ground, except for a few widely scattered patches of snow/ice here and there. However, the remaining 1.5 miles onward to the summit of Mt. Crawford consisted of compacted deep snow, and sporadic patches of ice. I didn't use the Microspikes that I had with me, although it probably would have been safer if I'd stopped and put them on.
There were no significant blowdowns.
Details about the route of this hike + some photos are at my BLOG.
