AT north to south has some snow and ice. Two blow downs, fairly new. We went around. Main branch of Brackett Brook at 1.6 miles in is angry, swift and on this day not passable as ice had thawed and water very high. We turned around, went back to the car and drove to the Rivendell trailhead thinking we would summit that way. About half a mile before the Cube summit the trail's thick ice slopes overwhelmed us and once again we turned around.
Special equipment needed: Microspikes. We brought crampons but lost enthusiasm when faced with the icy slopes so we didn't use them.
We went out today to do a 6 mile hike with a bit of elevation gain and between the two attempts we got that. Would have liked a little "viewage" though!
