trails: red gate trail, blue summit trail, access road
conditions: good parking off of west union st. in machester. nice kiosk with maps just up the trail from the parking lot. trail was generally dry until the upper part of the trail which was a bit wet and slick in spots. at the first transmission tower take the dirt road to the left to the summit. the trail proper is currently closed due to construction. it is brushed in at the tower clearing and then blocked off with no trespassing signs just before the summit building.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: a sweaty afternoon hike up to equinox after climbing dorset earlier in the day. the blue summit trail is never particularly steep, but relentless all the way. it's also quite well maintained. it looked like most of the good views on the summit are inside the fenced construction area which was a bit of a bummer. real fast hike down given the smooth footing much of the way.
