Date of Hike: Tue. Apr. 20, 2010
Trails: Gale River Rd., Garfield Trail
We parked at the south end of the Gale River Rd. and walked the road to the trailhead. The road was dry. The first water crossing where the bridges are out was do-able with wet boots, but the rocks were very slippery. On the return we crossed about 100 yds. upstream on some logs with dry boots. The second water crossing was easy.
The trail was bare and fairly dry to about 2500 ft. where a few inches of the new snow started to show up. The water crossings on the trail were easy.
At about 3100 ft. we went to snowshoes and kept them on to the summit and back.
Some blowdowns and branches, but Bill Marcotte cleared most of them. My shoulder was bothering me so I just supervised.
We improved on the snowshoe track that Hiker Ed left yesterday and left a pretty nice snowshoe trough in our wake for April.
Some sun off and on today with a chilly breeze on the summit. We had the trail to ourselves today.
