Date of Hike: Sat. 03-13-10
Trails: Mt. Garfield Trail
Parked at south end of Gale River Rd. The road walk was bumpy and icy. The two river crossings at the bridges were ice bridged. The first was much better than the second. The second was almost gone on our return.
The trail to the summit was frozen post holes and very rough. We wore our snowshoes to smooth out the trail with some success, especially on our return due to the soft conditions.
There were lots of blow downs that Bill Marcotte and I cleared on our way back down. We cleared two very large ones about a half mile from the trailhead.
The summit had some very high winds today, but the temps were fairly warm. A good day all in all. Nice talking with some familiar friends today also.
