We did an out and back on the Hale Brook Trail thinking that we could get this hike in and dodge the raindrops. We dodged the rain drops alright, I don't think it rained all day.
The trail is in good condition. It has been well cared for and there are no blow downs. The first 1000' is easy to moderate with good footing. The 2nd 1000' is a moderate steady climb with a somewhat bony footing.
The Hale Brook had a pretty good flow today. The first crossing was a 'second glance' crossing. The first glance didn't look too good but the second glance showed an easy crossing with no wading. The second crossing was very straight forward with an easy walk across.
Am I mistaken, or is the cairn at the top growing? It seemed higher than I remembered it.
On the way down we met a fellow stashed off the trail. He was faking injuries for a group that followed some distance behind who were practicing first aid and rescue techniques. Lauky licked his wounds and we continued on.
Farther down the trail we had a good chat with the rescue group and continued on to the trail head.
Mileage: 4.4
Elevation gain: 2300'
