Trails: Centennial to Mahoosic

Trail Conditions: Dry with minimal mud in a couple of spots. Lots of dry leaves covering trail. Half dozen blowdowns easily walked over/around.

Special Equipment Required: Water, poles handy because of all of the leaves. Deet or a sense of humor for the clouds of mosquitoes from Hogan Road to about halfway up (I used citronela and it worked for me).

Comments: Nice warm up hike and no snow. Trail has lots of rock steps with varying terrain/forest. Little bit of rock scrambles but this is a trail that would be great for a family hike. The mosquitoes were relentless at the trail head and until the birch sag about halfway up. A few blackflies but not biting. Great trail with lots of ledges for viewing Androscoggin & Carters and Northern Presidentials. Trillium and ladyslippers out. Lots of moose poop. A few garter snakes. Great views from three summit areas! Met only two other hikers. You can hear the hydro plant turbines for the first mile or so.
