Date of Hike: 2/24/2008
Trail Condition: Packed trail up to Zeta Pass
Special Equipment: Snowshoes, crampons or katoola microspikes
Comments: We had intended to go to the Imp but couldn't find the trailhead and decided to head up to the Carters. When we reached Zeta Pass we changed our destination to Mt. Hight (4674'), which we had previously read about. Up to that point the trail had been hardpacked and our snowshoes were a bit overkill, but were necessary for the last .4 up to the summit. No way would we have been able to reach the summit without snowshoes. Summit had a light coating of snow and ice. Outstanding VFFT of the Presidentials and Wild River Wilderness area. 8.8 miles roundtrip in 8 hours times. A great winter hike - highly recommended.
