Great day in the falling snow -Ginger and I had the trails to ourselves today. Wore Stabilicers to the height-of-land. After some confusion as to which way to go, we put on snowshoes for the legendary Engine Hill bushwack which was beautiful (and should be called the Birch Glade bushwack...). Trails are now packed-out fairly well but there was 4-5" of powder that fell today.
Date of hike 1-31-12
Trails hiked Rocky Branch, Engine Hill bushwack(?), Isolation, & Davis
Trail conditions Packed out well in AM but falling snow in PM; crossings were fine overall; the upper section of Isolation and Davis path lumpy from barebooters but better now; some heavy brush growth in the trail corridor on the Davis Path at 6' level meant lots of snow dropping off the branches and between my jacket and backpack.
Weather conditions Snowfall on and off all day up to 5" accumulation; no wind on summit - actually pleasant for a snowy day.
Equipment Snowshoes, Stabilicers, Microspikes (carried but not used)
