Mt. Israel via Wentworth Trail
Date of Hike: Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Trail Conditions: Frozen granular, bare spots
Special Equipment Required: Light traction not a bad idea
Comments:
Road to Mead Base Camp is *not* plowed - short 3-5 minute roadwalk to get to the trailhead, room for 2-4 cars at end of plowed section of road.
Wentworth Trail was frozen granular this morning. I wore snowshoes all the way, but it could have been done with light traction or (though perhaps annoying) barebootedly.
Creek crossings (except for the largest one, which is still just barely bridged) are open.
Follow my tracks (you'll want snowshoes for this) from the cairn to the northeastern ledges for perhaps the best vista on the mountain.
I removed a few blowdowns, but a few remain (step overs).
