What a mess!
The bottom of the trail is an ecological disaster at this point. At parts, it's like a river, in others, the mud is so terrible that even the dedicated hikers can't walk up the center, and the trail is just getting wider and wider.
If there are any trail maintenance people out there, the lower half really needs a bog bridge in one spot. It's obvious where.
The top mile is a sheet of ice. Period. Soft. I was able to use microspikes, but even then, I had to walk very carefully.
Fortunately, the boulders near the top are clean at this point, and mostly dry. Once up top, I took off my microspikes, and as the entire summit cone was free and dry.
Not a fun trail to be hiking right now! It's very hard to do the right thing and stay on trail at the moment.
Also, it's a bit lightly blazed. Less a concern once everything melts off, but in the winter if there were new snow, I could see people struggling unnecessarily.
All the best,
Brian
