A little loose snow on the trail but the trail was very solid underfoot. Snowshoes were not necessary, but this trail has some very steep sections so some sort of traction was helpful especially going down hill. As I remember there are some ledges near the top. The snow is so deep there is no sign of the ledges right now. The summit cone as always at this time of year is covered with ice.
Crampons, stableicers or snowshoes recommended for traction.
The snow quit around 10:00 AM and what did fall over night was minimal. The sun never came out but the temperature was fairly mild all things considered. The summit was in a cloud with some wind but it was not really necessary to add clothing if you didn't stand around very long. Mt. Jackson is lower than Pierce and the trail heads are not far apart, but the Webster- Jackson trail with its ups and downs and steep sections is definitely more difficult than the Crawford path up Pierce.
